How do I look after my coloured hair?
In general the lighter your hair tones the more protection they will need from the sun. All coloured hair should be protected from the sun as the UV rays will cause the colour to fade a faster rate.
Red hair is particularly prone to this. The solution is to cover up where possible and use styling products that contain UV filters.
How often should I wash coloured hair?
Try not to wash your hair too frequently. Once or twice a week is ideal , although if you have fine or oily hair you may need to increase this. When washing hair be sure to use warm to tepid water, not hot.
Which shampoo is best for coloured hair?
Always use a shampoo designed for coloured hair. Harsh shampoo, like anti-dandruff shampoo, will fade the hair faster.
Using the right products can mean prolonging your colour by weeks rather than days, so spending a little extra can actually save in the long term by reducing the frequency of your colour services.
Shampoo which contains pigment to maintain your colour is not something we would recommend. In most cases the amount of pigment is far too much for your hair and may even result in giving a different tone.
Which styling products should I use?
To maintain a healthy shine you can use a spritz of shine serum. This is especially good on darker colours.
Hairspray however can dull the hair on darker tones.
Do avoid using products which contain alcohol because it can dry out the hair and make it appear dull. There are a surprising number of styling products which contain alcohol so make sure you check the label first.
